1/64 Case IH

Fall Farm Show Tractors

by Jason Dalton

The Farm Progress Show and Husker Harvest Days are two of the biggest farm shows every fall.  These shows have been around for years and there have been many unique 1/64 toys produced for these shows.  In fact there has been over 125 different tractors, combines, and auger wagons produced for over 20 different equipment manufacturers.  In this article we will look at the Case IH farm show toys.

Case IH actually was the first company to offer a farm show tractor in 1/64 with the 2594 model in 1985.  This model was produced for the Farm Progress Show in Knightstown, Indiana.

In 1986 Ertl produced a 3394 that came with front wheel assist.  The show that year was held in Alleman, Iowa and was rained out.  This made the toys very hard for collectors to get.

1987 brought the introduction of the Magnum tractor.  There was a 7120 produced that year for the show.  Ertl continued the Magnum line with a 7130 with front wheel assist in 1988 and a 7110 in 1989.

The 1990 show tractor brought another first to the collector.  It was a 7140 with duals and front wheel assist.  This was the first tractor produced by Ertl that offered duals and front wheel assist on the same model.

In 1991 Ertl produced a Maxxum 5130 tractor.  This year also saw Scale models produce 3 vintage IH tractors for the show: 606 Utility, Farmall F-12 & a Titan steam tractor.

1992 was the 150th anniversary of the Case corporation.  Ertl produced a 7150 tractor with front wheel assist for the show that year and the package had a special 150th anniversary logo on it.

The 1993 show offered a higher horsepower tractor to the collector.  It was a 9260 rigid frame four wheel drive.  It was followed by a 7250 Magnum with front wheel assist in 1994

1995 brought along another first with the 2188 combine with duals.  This was the first 1/64 combine to have dual wheels.  There was also another combine produced that year for the Ohio Farm Science Review that looked very similar to it and had a very similar looking box. It did not have duals and came with a 2166 model number.  Scale models also produced a 9370 four wheel drive in 1995 that had dual wheels.

In 1996 ertl produced a Farmall MD tractor.   That year Scale Models produced a Quadtrac.  This toy had 1996 farm show editon on the cab top but no special marking on the package.  Scale models followed that up in 1997 with a very similar Quadtrac that had farm show edition on the hood and on the package.  In 1997 Ertl produced the new style Maxxum tractor that came with front wheel assist and had the model number MX120.

1998 brought the new Style MX magnum tractor.  Ertl produced a MX240 with front wheel assist and followed that in 1999 with a MX240 with duals and front assist.

Scale models continued there Quadtracs in 1998 & 1999 with the same model but slightly different packages.  Scale models also produced a 9390 with triples in 1999.

For the new millennium in 2000 Case IH did not offer any farm show tractors.  However in 2001 Ertl came back with a very nice STX 440 on tracks and Scale Models produced a Farmall super H

2002 brought another very nice toy produced by Ertl.  A MX255 with front and rear spaced duals wheels.

And just released in time for this article is the nicest Case IH farm show toy yet,  the highly detailed AFX 8010 combine with dual wheels.  Although this is the newest Case IH farm show toy it already looks to be the most valuable one as well.

All of the toys that I have mentioned so far were mainly produced for the farm progress show.  Some of the later ones were released at Husker Harvest Days and then sold at the Farm Progress Show as well.  The first  Husker Harvest Days toy offered by Ertl was a 1987 Case International 2594 with a loader.  However in 1988 1989 and 1990 the Ertl company produced special Case IH combines for the Husker Harvest Days show. The 1988 model was a 1660 as was the 1989 model. The 1990 model was a nice change with a 1640 designation.  All three of these came with special markings on the side of the combine as well as the box.

Scale Models also produced a tractor solely for Husker Harvest Days.  It was a 9380 Quadtrac and was produced for the 2000 show.  It had the show markings on the package and a special 9380 decal on the toy.

Well I think that covers all of the major farm show tractors.  Remember this article only covered Case IH toys produced for the 2 major farm shows.  There are several other Case IH toys that have been produced over the years for other smaller shows in the US & Canada.  I hope that this article helped to fill those holes in your collections.   Please contact me if you have any questions regarding anything I covered in this article or if you feel that I have missed a certain model.  If you are interested in purchasing any of these models I have most of them in stock.   You can contact me at wwww.daltonsfarmtoys.com
