What is in this Issue?

Toy Times Comments

Summer is here.  It has been quite warm in Kentucky.  Wheat harvest is off to a slow start due to frequent thunder showers.  Next month TTT will feature the wheat harvest as it themes.  We should have some great harvest pictures to share with you from the wheat fields of Western Kentucky.

June will be an exciting month for new toys.  If you read ToyTractorShow.com's New Toys News you know that Ertl will release a new self propelled John Deere 7500 Forage Harvester  this month and in July a 1/64 2700 disk-ripper.   The most exciting new release this month is probably the 1/64 Big Bud 16V-747 760 hp Factory Version.  Clear off some shelf space because this model is larger than any 1/64 available. It  has been nicely crafted by Die-Cast Promotions with handrails, windows and a tilting hood.  The Modern William's Brothers 960 hp model will be available this September which will be followed by a set of 3 tractors.  You will be able  have a message engraved on the bottom of the tractors in this set.  I want to thank Robert William's pictured below for autographing one of the 16V-747's for me.  The William's brothers are two great people to meet and have added allot to our hobby with the 1/32 and 1/64 models of their 4wd.

We plan to announce  2003 Toy Tractor Times Anniversary Tractor in the July issue.  Rick Larsen and I have looked over several great choices this spring and feel that we have found a model that will be a new and exciting model of a classic tractor. We are almost finalized on the tractor but not quite ready to release it.  I will give a hint to tide you over. This tractor was introduced in Las Vegas, Nevada, it established a long awaited new family of tractors for the tractor maker and was marketed under the theme "Open Your Eyes & Compare".

This month The Toy Tractor Times takes a look at the County Fair.  The June issue is full of pulling tractor articles.  Hopefully you will enjoy reading  about these powerful and flashy tractor which are a staple at many county fairs.   We also look at some new toy items just out as well as new literature.  For 1/64 there are two features that start this month.  The "Advance of Windows"  article received many positive e-mails so we decided to follow it with a three part series on the advance of 1/64 tires and wheels.   The other new article is on building a Mega Farm Display.  Over the next few months we will use the "Down on the Model Farm" column to talk choosing the right equipment to run a 1,000 + acre grain farm.   Next month our theme will feature the American Wheat harvest as well as some Stars and & Stripes items for the 4th of July.

"Until Next Times"

About The Cover:

Dan Adamson built the 1/16  Green Demon pulling tractor on this months cover.  Dan also built a 1/64 Green Demon as well.   The real tractor is owned by Jimmy Meeder from Warsaw, NY  who is a member of the Empire State Puller Association.  Both models were built in the early 90's. The 1/16 model started out as a Scale Models 4020. Dan hand built most of the parts to replicate the real puller. The only parts purchased are the front IH weights and muffler, from Dakota Toys.  Dan built the rear MF weights and other parts. The 1/64 model is based of the Ertl 4010 from the 8 piece JD historical set.  The Green Demon is still pulling and you may see it at a WNY  fair this summer.

Kid's Corner:

This is my 7 month old nephew Joey.  He's been collecting tractors for 7 months now.  He first got started when we gave him his first “my first collectable” Ertl toy.  He is an avid reader and I have to fight with him every month over the Toy Tractor Times.  Here he is, frantically searching the TTT for new models.  I'm not looking forward to the day when he can reach the keyboard and take Toy Tractor Show away too.

Next Times.........

In July The Toy Tractor Times will look at the wheat harvest.  The American wheat harvest begins in the fields of Texas and ends in the fall on the Canadian prairies.  July is the key month of the wheat harvest as farmers from the East Coast to the West Coast are in full swing harvesting.  It is time to park the planter and tune up the combine.
