Striking
Gold in 1/64
In this article we will look at 1/64 gold
plated tractors. Over the years
there have been quite a few different ones made.
A majority of them were very limited or made especially for dealer
meetings. This article will just
high light a majority of the different ones made but will not cover them all.

The first toy we will look
at is the oldest gold plated toy that I have found in 1/64.
It is a John Deere 4430 out of the old historical set.
It comes on a wood base w/ a plaque that says 15 year service award.
These were given out around 1980 for 15 years of service at the Ertl
company. This is a very hard to
find toy. I don’t know how many
were made but I have only seen two of them.

Over the years Scale Models
gold plated a lot of different antique tractors. Above is a photo showing a Fordson from the 1994 New Holland
dealer meeting, Farmall F-12 from the 1997 Case dealer Meeting & a MM
“J”. The MM is just a shelf
model tractor. They made a series
of these including:
AC WC
Case CC
English Fordson
MM J
JD A
JD G
JD GP
Oliver 80
Oliver 70
MH 44
IH M
Next is a picture of 3 different Case steam engines. They were all made for Case dealer meetings.
The one in the package has a sticker saying “Bringin it all Together”
on the canopy. Of the two out of
the package, one says Success Express 1990 on the side and the other one is not
marked at all.

The next two pictures show
more of Scale Models antique tractors. The
first one shows a JD A produced for the 1999 parts expo and a John Deere 5020
that was made foe the 2002 parts expo. The second picture shows a Allis Chalmers D-17 made for the
1993 national dealer meeting.

The following pictures are
of different row crop tractors produced by Scale Models.

The pictures above show a MF 3070 and a Deutz Allis 6265. These were produced as Christmas Ornaments. The Deutz Allis was produced for four different years with a decal on the cab top indicating the year. The Massey & Deutz tractors were also produced in Gold plating as Dealer Meeting tractors.
Here are three more Agco
gold plated tractors. The first is
a 185 white made for the Metzger Bros(A White Farm Equipment dealership)50th
ann. in 1990. The second
photo shows a Agco Allis 8630 and a Agco white 6105.
These were both made for dealer meetings and are very hard to find.

The above photo shows a gold
plated Kubota tractor w/ rops. I
don’t know what this one was made for but have found it in two different
package variations.
The last of the Scale Models
pictures shows a Ford 846 made for the 1989 Nashville dealer meeting.
There was also a 876 made for the Boston dealer meeting in 1990.

Over the years the Ertl
company has also produced its share of Gold plated tractors.
The first picture is of a Ford 901 Powermaster tractor.
This was a collector edition tractor and is not that hard to find.
The next ford tractor pictured is a Golden Jubilee.
This was a shelf model and was mass produced.

The above pictured Agco sets
were randomly inserted into case lots of the shelf edition version.
The odds of finding a gold set were around 1 in 60 sets.
Next is a Millenium edition
set that has 10 different gold plated tractors. These were distributed by the Ertl Replica Magazine.
Although you do not see that many of these they are not that valuable.

The rest of the pictures
will show different gold plated John Deere toys produced by the Ertl company.
The first picture is of a JD
bulldozer on a wood plaque. This
was given out as a dealer sale award for high volume sales of real JD
construction equipment.

Next is another John Deere
dozer that was produced for the Plow City Toy Show, it was packaged with a 1/16
version as well.

The following tractor is a
John Deere D that was the first toy produced for the John Deere Commons in
Moline. You will find a few
packaged without a medallion as the picture shows.

This picture shows a John
Deere 6320 that was given out at the Tampa Dealer Meeting.
There were 1000 of these produced and are not easy to find.
The last of the John Deere
toys pictured are all very limited and extremely hard to find!

The first one is of a John
Deere 50th anniversary A. There
were less than 20 of these made and I do not know for sure what they were
produced for. I have been told that
this was a prototype that was in the works and the idea was scrapped.

Next is a John Deere 5010
that was made for the 100th issue of the Replica Magazine.
There were only 100 of these made in gold.
This was a call in deal for subscribers of the Replica Magazine.

Last is a picture of a 5
piece set produced as a sales promotion for John Deere dealers.
These were given to dealers who ordered a large volume of JD toys at the
Tampa dealer meeting. There were less than 50 of these sets given out.
The models in the set included: 6320, 8420 duals front and back, 9220
triples, 9420T, 8520T.
However even with the small
number produced I have found a mistake in this set. I have found one set that has the 9220 decaled as a 9420.

Well that is a look at most
of the gold plated 1/64 tractors. I
hope this article will help you in completing your 1/64 collection.
