What is in this Issue?

Toy Times Comments

Welcome to our first issue of 2004.  We are plowing right into the New Year with an information filled issue on topics from 1/16 scale to 1/32 and 1/64.  No matter what your favorite area of collecting, this issue of TTT is sure to cover it.

This is slow time of the year on the farm. The fall harvest and tillage rush is over and most parts of the country are in the deep freeze.  It has been a mild winter so far in Kentucky but from weather reports from friends in New York, Wisconsin and Nova Scotia, Canada , it has bitter cold up North.  It is time for lots of loader work pushing snow and loading manure. Hopefully the hydraulic lines don't freeze up on the loader.

The toy hobby has slowed down with new toy news with the completion of the Christmas season. We are eagerly awaiting the 2004 toy catalogs from John Deere, Case-New Holland and AGCO.  John Deere announced over 50 new items in December.  It is hard to imagine what other green surprises are in store for us. CaseIH has a few surprises already trickling out with a 1/16 Farmall A, B, C historical set , Precision Farmall 400 with front mounted cultivator and a 1/64 Farmall 100, 200, 300 and 400 historical set.  Looking for a 1/64 lawn mower?  The Cub 100 will fit the bill. I have heard a few possible surprises for AGCO that will please collectors but I will hold off until the models are official.

You will notice our Linking the Chain of Farm Toy Collectors box salutes the 100,000th Magnum from CaseIH.  Each month from now on, we will salute historical tractors and events in this area of the magazine.

Next month TTT will feature a new perspective on farm toy collecting. If you would like to join the TTT author list or share an article please contact  Michael Henry at michaelghenry@yahoo.com.

Gerald R. Forsythe, an Illinois businessman and farmer with operations near Marshall, Illinois took delivery of the 100,000th Case IH Magnum tractor, an MX285, from Kurt Edens, manager of Farm Pride Casey, the Case IH dealer in Casey, Illinois, on November 25, 2003. Mr. Forsythe drove the tractor off the assembly at the Case IH Racine Manufacturing Operations (RMO) in Racine, Wisconsin, which assembles all Case IH MX Magnum tractors. Introduced in 1987, Case IH Magnum tractors have logged an estimated 400 million hours of operation. Employees of the RMO added custom one-of-a-kind graphics to Mr. Forsythe’s tractor to recognize its exclusive status.  Ertl released a 1/16 Collectors Edition 100,000th Magnum MX 285 in December 2003 to help comemerate another historic red tractor in the CaseIH Heritage.

About The Cover: Plowing into the New Year is our theme for January.  Our authors picked topics that interest them for this issue. We have wide coverage of all three scales.  The cover displays a classic winter thaw plowing scene.  It is only a few more months before the planters will be rolling again.

We Have a Winner

Mary and Kevin Card of Pennsylvania were the 200th new subscriber in  2003.  They were the grand prize winners of the Toy Tractor Times John Deere 4040 Anniversary tractor.  It was a pleasure to meet Mary and Kevin at the the 18th Western New York Toy Show.  Kevin is an avid tractor collector and builds some very nice looking barns. Look for an article on Kevin in a future issue of TTT.

Next Times.........

The February Toy Tractor Times will cover new perspectives on farm toy collecting.   Our articles will look at  how collectors decide what to collect.  With such a wide variety of farm toys, farm toy makers, levels of detail and scales it is hard to choose.  It takes a big wallet to afford everything.  It will take an even bigger toy room.  It is much easier to pick a brand, scale or series to collect and enjoy.
