What is in this Issue?

Toy Times Comments

Thank you for subscribing to The Toy Tractor Times.  This our first full issue and I hope you will enjoy it.  This month's issue focuses on the implements of spring.  Hopefully you are seeing more spring tillage and planting implements in the field as you read this issue.

Growing up in Rochester, NY spring could never arrive soon enough.  Now that I am in Kentucky spring comes early. In early March the soil was already being turned over while many places across the nation were still plowing snow. I was able to spend the day on a large family farm riding on 4wds applying NH3.  The tractors I rode on were a CaseIH STX 440 Quad-Trac and John Deere 9520.  They are impressive modern machines and can really cover some ground. What a fun way to spend a spring day.  You can view the pictures from my trip to the field at www.bigtractorpower.com.

This issue will get you ready for spring.  Dan Adamson has given a detailed report on the 1/64 1980's chisel plows and corn planters from Ertl.  Phil Alstaetter reports on the John Deere Precision plow and planter as well as the new 70 Standard.  Jim Simpson talks tillage and seeding in his Tractor Companions column.  Dave Tallon shares more detailed 1/64 custom tips.  Pedaling Around Pennsylvania debates the International 806's where abouts??? Variations looks at the very common and very rare IH 544. Keeping Current with 64th will give a complete rundown on 1/64 plows available from the past and today. John Schomburg shares some great spring display shots from his display on Down on the Model Farm.  Collectors Workmanship also offers up some nice custom work with Mike Docter's Big Bud Display.  Just in time for spring the 64th markets hottest toys are 16 row planters.  Check the planters features vs. their real counter parts in this months Hottest 1/64 of the month. A fun throw back to older Toy Tractor Times issues is "Things That Used to Be". This page pictures high priced older toys that are fun to at least look at. Gordy Schultz's Literature Rack closes The Toy Tractor Times out for April with an overview of the corn planters of the 1960's and 1970's.

Thank you for being a part of the e-Toy Tractor Times from the start.   We have subscribers from 23 states, Canada, Ireland and one member reading this issue in Iraq while serving in operation Iraqi Freedom.  To thank  the April 2003 subscribers I want to add one extra month to your subscription.  Because you are giving something new a try you will not need to renew until the June 2004 issue.  The May issue will cover haying from mowing to chopping to baling.

Until the next "Times"

Jay

About The Cover: This April we plow ahead with a new look and hopes a farmer has in the spring as he prepares the ground for the new crop.  Hopefully you will enjoy this first full e-edition of The Toy Tractor Times.  As we shake off cabin fever and take in the smell and sounds of spring there is nothing better than the smell of a plow turning over fresh earth and the sound of planter openers squeaking across the field. Hopefully Spring 2003 will be the start of a bountiful crop.

Next Times.........

Haying is the theme for the May issue. There is no better smell of spring than a fresh cut hay field. We will feature custom choppers, haying in 64th, classic hay equipment and interesting hay literature along with other interesting farm toy articles.
