This month I wanted to have some fun with my 1/64 IH farm toys to tie in the 101 years of International Harvester theme.  As a kid I grew up around IH tractors and equipment.  One of my favorite things was visiting the IH dealer in town with my Dad.  I liked to go to the brochure rack and pick out IH brochures.  At a young age I was most interested at looking at the big tractors and implements. Growing up in Western New York we did not have 16 bottom plows, press drills or other big implements found out "West"  in the plains and corn belt.  I would pour over IH brochure hours dreaming about all the red equipment.

One item I hear from collectors about quite often is how to choose tractors and implements for a 1/64 display.  People ask is this the right tractor, does it have enough horse power or  does it have too much horse power?  What type of tillage should I use? is this the right size planter?  As always make sure to have fun.  Use what you think looks good.  If you want to ad realism one good source is OEM sales literature.  Look at the brochures and see what an equipment shown by the company and the tractor they have hooked onto it.  In many cases the literature states the region the item is best used and the specifications of best use.

To stay with the IH topic I looked back to some of my favorite IH brochures from my childhood.  I matched up my IH toys to the brochures and set the 1/64 toys out in different poses through out my display to match the IH pictures.  If I were to take my display to a toy show many people would probably recognize my IH scenes.  It may win points with judges for creativity and accuracy.

International had its own farm in Hinsdale, Illinois that it used to create scenes to promote its brand.  Whether its is a Super M-TA or or a Super 70's 7488  you will see the IH tractors and same people working in the same fields over a 40 year time frame.  This is a unique feature about IH sales literature and made it easy to set up the familiar field settings.  I hope you enjoy this months display pictures.
