Custom MPG Energy Services IH 9100 & Tanker

How Time Flies! Sitting down to write this article, I looked over at the calendar and was amazed that its already November. Over here in Maine, things have gotten quite cold, quite fast, the days of working outdoors are pretty much over. Which for me is a mixed blessing, although I'd rather be outside, being "stuck" inside has the advantage of being able to work on some model projects I've had on my mind. I'm hoping to show you guys my latest project here on TTT or in a post in the forums. Either way, you'll see it somewhere here at TTT first.

One of the latest customs to roll off my bench is this tanker I built. I used stock DCP offerings for the truck & trailer, but made the decals myself. MPG stands for Maine Potato Growers and is a Co-Op which serves my area and is based out of Presque Isle Maine.

Review - HCM Toys Renegade Trailer Kit

DeWayne Harrison of HCMtoys.com was kind enough to send me a new kit he has available, a Renegade Lowboy. As you can see by the pictures, I'm not totally finished with it, but I am completely done the assembly of this kit. I still have to sand & finish it.

What You Get:

  • Laser Cut Styrene Sheet of Parts
  • Styrene Rod Needed For Assembly
  • Instruction/Assembly Booklet
  • Tires & Axles (Optional)

Instruction Manual
Stryene Sheet & Included Stryene Rod

Built up Trailer & Flip Axle

My first impression when I got this kit was WOW there are alot of parts! Which in my book is an excellent thing! After 30 minutes of assembly you can see clearly this is not just a run of the mill no-detailed kit. The detail & thought put into this model is supurb!

Assembly was very straightfoward using the well documented instruction packet supplied. Minimal tools were needed to put this kit together, a hobby knife, sand paper and the glue of your choice. I assembled the entire model with little to no problems or issues.... Of course I'm not 100% done, but close enough!

Overall I LOVE this kit....the HCM Toys kits keep getting better & better all the time. Another thing that I like about this kit is the strength of the kit...when you get your trailer all assembled, you'd be suprised at how heavy & strong it is...especially for a styrene kit. As I've said in the past, another great beaty of a kit is the option to personalize it however you want. This kit even comes with an flip axle that you can choose to add or not.I would highly reccomend this kit to anybody who is looking for a lowboy to haul their farm equipment around on the rug farm.
