After two rounds, the planters need to fill again with seed potatoes. As you can imagine, this consumes a lot of the time during planting.

Several IH trucks keep the Orlund planting operation moving along.

Across the road on from Orlund’s on the display is Mirron Bros. Potato Farm also planting potatoes. Mirron Bros. grows about 1700 acres of potatoes.

Mirron’s preplanting tillage process is a little different than Orlund Farms. Mirrons will also first run a disk over the rye cover crop, but then they rip up the ground with a 9 shank Sunflower ripper pulled by a JD 9520. Due to congestion issues on the display, I was not abled to display these on the layout for the National show.

Mirrons then run a 35ft. Landoll soil finisher pulled by a JD 9320 directly ahead of the row marker and planters.

The rows then get marked out with a JD 8220 and 8-row Harriston dry fertilizer marker. A herbicide is also applied at this time.
