Finally in early 2002, after having faith in the skills God gave me, and deciding I would first start with the potato planters, work on my first pieces of potato equipment began. Also, at about the same time I decided I wanted to build a display featuring this equipment, with hopes of maybe someday displaying at the National Farm Toy Show, in Dyersville, Iowa.

This goal has materialized itself to be what I call, the Bauman Field Display, and this is the second version of it. Wisconsin potato planting in 1/64th scale. The first version was the fall edible bean harvest of these same fields shown at the 2005 St. Louis Show. This display was featured in the March 2005 Toy Tractor Times.

Wisconsin is ranked 4th in the nation for potato production. In 2004, approximately 80,000 acres of potato were harvested. The majority of the potato farms lie in the Central Sands region, which is great for allowing the potatoes to take plenty of the water they need, while not allowing them to sit and rot in it. There are quite a few other potato farms in the state, with the area around Antigo, Wisconsin harboring many, while several more potato farms exist in the north central area of the state, and near where I grew up in the Northwest section. My display is based in the southern part of the Central Sands region.

The display shows the potato planting operations of three different farms, while also showing Roven Farms planting early sweet corn.

The layout stands at 4 ft. 2 in. high, to allow a more natural and closer view of everything. In addition, there are no buildings on the display, as I needed every square inch of the display to properly layout the equipment for the operations that I want to show. This also allows the focus to be directly on the equipment that I spent so much time building over the years.
